Northside Promenade Project

February 14, 2023

Today, our President Michael handed the last portion of funding over to Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy for our 5-5 promise. Thank you Erin Tobin for all of your hard work and commitment to beautifying our front lawn!

New pedestrian crossings at Federal and Arch Streets will include planted medians to provide safe harbor and signal drivers that they are entering the park zone. The George Washington Monument will be given a new setting in a well-scaled oval plaza. Finishing touches will include historically appropriate benches and energy efficient lighting. The planting scheme will feature a central allee of canopy trees along the Promenade, with a variety of understory trees planted informally in the flanking lawn.

The first phase of the project was completed in 2021 and began near the Patricia Rooney Memorial Fountain, extending to Federal Street. The second phase will pick up at Federal and continue to Arch Street. Construction is expected to begin in 2023.

The Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy will begin the second phase of the North Promenade project in Allegheny Commons Park in 2023. Construction will start at Federal Street and North Avenue, continuing to Arch Street. Accessible pathways, dark sky-compliant lighting, additional bench installations, and new park trees are the major features of the next phase of work, which will fulfill the needs and wishes of the Northside community.
